TRANSPORTATION TO FICA CONFERENCE
The 2008 FICA conference opens on Thursday September 4th
at Quilombo Cultural Center (1757 N Kimball Ave. Chicago, IL 60647), home
of FICA Chicago. After which we will proceed to Camp Lawrence for the
remainder of the weekend.
FICA Chicago will provide transportation to and from Camp
Lawrence ONLY during the following times: from Chicago on Thursday Night
at 10:30 pm; back to Chicago, 2 departure times (12:30 pm and 6:30 pm).
You must indicate in your registration email if you will need this transportation,
and also please indicate which departure time on Sunday you will need.
If you are traveling by car please scroll to the last section
"Travelling by Car".
If you are traveling by public transportation review the next section,
which has directions from O'Hare airport and Midway airport to Quilombo
and Camp Lawrence.
TRAVELLING BY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
For the people arriving on Thursday for the opening you
should proceed to Quilombo Cultural Center for registration. We will provide
transportation from Chicago to Camp Lawrence by bus only on Thursday night.
For the people arriving on Friday or Saturday, you should
proceed directly to Camp Lawrence for registration. Directions from the
airports to Camp Lawrence are included, but please let us know ahead of
time so arrangements for someone to pick you up from the train station.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT FROM O'HARE
(Please keep in mind there may be delays due to construction on this line,
so give yourself plenty of time to get here)
O'Hare Airport to Quilombo Cultural Center
· Take the CTA Blue Line South, towards the LOOP
· Get off at Belmont
· Transfer to CTA Bus # 82 Kimball / Homan South bound
· Get off at Bloomingdale stop. This stop is right in front of
the Kimball Arts Center, which is our building. Enter the parking lot
on the East side of the street, and door entrance is just near the bike
rack in the parking lot. Press buzzer that says Quilombo.

O'Hare Airport to Camp Lawrence

· Take the CTA Blue Line South, towards the LOOP
· Get off at Washington
· Walk to South Shore Metra Station at 151 E Randolph Street. Randolph
is one block north of Washington. The Metra station is on the Southwest
corner of Randolph St. & Michigan Ave.

Metra - South Shore Line
· Take the South Shore Line
· Get off at Dunes Park.
· If arriving on Friday or Saturday please let us know ahead of
time so we can make arrangements to pick you up at Dunes Park Metra Station

PUBLIC TRANSPORT FROM MIDWAY
Midway Airport to Quilombo Cultural Center
· Take the CTA Orange Line towards the Loop
· Get off at Kedzie
· Take CTA bus #52 Kedzie / California north bound
· Get off at Wabansia, and walk West six blocks
· Turn north (Right) on Kimball and the Quilombo Cultural Center
is half a block north on Kimball. Enter the parking lot on the East side
of the street and door entrance is just near the bike rack in the parking
lot. Press buzzer that says Quilombo.

Midway Airport to Camp Lawrence

TRAVELLING BY CAR
By Car to Quilombo
· Get yourselves to US Interstate 90/94 that runs
through Chicago.
· Either from the North or the South the exit remains the same,
take the North Ave Exit.
· Go West from the highway about 2.5 miles until you come to Kimball
Ave. (it is directly after Kedzie).
· Go North on Kimball about 1.5 blocks. After you cross Wabansia,
the Quilombo Cultural Center is located in the parking lot on the East
side of Kimball. You may park in the lot, except in areas designated for
the Dog Store and other tenants.
By Car to Camp Lawrence
FROM INTERSTATE 80/90 (THE INDIANA TOLL ROAD):
· In either direction, exit the Chesterton/Valparaiso exit and
turn right on U.S. Hwy. 49 south.
· Approximately one mile, exit the Westville exit of US Hwy. 6,
turn left at stoplight.
· At the next light, (Calumet Ave) turn right.
· The road will crest a bridge (over Hwy. 49) approximately two
miles later. At the bottom of the hill, County Road 700 North is on the
right.
· Turn right at that street. Camp is approximately two miles on
the left.
FROM INTERSTATE 94:
· In either direction, exit the Chesterton/Valparaiso exit on U.S.
Hwy. 49 south.
· After passing the exit for the Indiana Toll Road, approximately
one mile, exit the Westville exit of US Hwy. 6, turn left at stoplight.
· At the next light, (Calumet Ave) turn right.
· The road will crest a bridge (over Hwy. 49) approximately two
miles later. At the bottom of the hill, County Road 700 North is on the
right.
· Turn right at that street. Camp is approximately two miles on
the left.
